Enhancing from a painting or grainy photo

If you like to use mine, click on the thumbnail, then right click and 'save as'
childyarnhale2.jpg (80000 bytes)
(painting is from Public Domain, so is safe to use)

I used PaintShop Pro 7.04, but it will be mostly the same in other versions

Open the painting....

With your lassoo tool set to point to point, feather nil, antialias unchecked,
surround the girl as close as you can, doesn't have to be perfect....
when you have surrounded her, double click to hug the selection close...

Right click on the blue bar of the painting....click on copy....
Edit....Paste as New Image

That girl looks all grainy, so....
With your lassoo tool, carefully surround the legs, arm and part of her face, like below.....

Do NOT do her eyes nose and mouth!

Go to Effects....Enhance photo.....Moire pattern removal with these settings....

Click Ok....

(If using later psp versions, like corel psp X, go to 'adjust'....one step noise removal)

That looks much better, most times you won't need to, but if you see some lines, it needs a bit of cleaning up.....

So, with your Retouch tool set ......

Touch up the lines on her legs and arms......

Maybe her face needs a cleanup too.....

Her lips and eyes looks a bit blurry, so I used the clone brush, right clicked to pick a colour and painted around her eye and lips.....

Then using the Retouch Tool set to Soften....

soften the lips and under her eye....

We're nearly there :-)

Notice her hair?  That looks very flat!

So we're going to fix that with the Retouch Tool set to Smudge.....

Now go over the outside of her hair and out and down and up at different sections.....

This is the difference of the face....

When you are happy with it, save as a tube for using it again and again :-)

Note: If you're using a different painting, the settings might have to differ, so play with it till you're happy with it..
